Who am I?
My name is JP Blake.
I co-founded E-Lux Electric Bikes and spent ten years building it from the ground up.
We helped lead the first wave of EBike adoption.
Thousands of bikes sold. Thousands of riders on the road.
And with that growth, I started seeing something that worried me.
Young Riders weren’t treating EBikes with the respect they needed. Riding recklessly in traffic oblivious to the life and death consequences they could face.
That’s why I founded the EBike Safety Foundation in early 2025.

What’s the Problem?
When I was a kid, the phone was attached to the kitchen wall and Mom could hear everything.
If I wanted to see my friends, I had to go outside.
If I wanted to hang out with someone across town, I needed a car— or a friend with one.
My peers and I were motivated to get our licenses. And with that came driver’s ed. We learned the rules of the road before we ever hit the street.
That’s not how it works anymore.
Kids don’t need cars to connect. They talk online, they text, they game. Away from prying adult ears. All from the comfort of their rooms.
When they do want to go somewhere, more and more of them are hopping on EBikes.
Parents see the upside:
- Kids can get to school without a ride.
- They can hang out with friends on their own schedule.
- EBikes go farther, faster, and with less effort than pedal bikes.
But there’s a catch.
These same kids are now commuting in real traffic—without licenses, without training, and without any understanding of how cars behave.
- They don’t know the laws.
- They don’t know how long it takes to stop at 25 mph.
- They don’t know how invisible they are to a distracted driver.
EBikes are heavier, faster, and more dangerous than they look.
New riders treat them like toys.
It’s easy to get in over your head.
We’ve reached a point where something has to change!

- Some ride two-up.
- Some don’t wear helmets.
- Some don’t even know they’re breaking the law.
What’s the Solution?
There are three desperate needs in the EBike industry.
